Obituary for Doris A. Piazza

All are born from story, and some live their story as if by calling. The story lived by Doris Ann Piazza, one of theme embodied by family, characters graced by the power and wisdom of nurturing, plots compelling and full as time, is a story revealed by all whom she’s touched. Doris, 87, of Brighton, Michigan; Rustburg, Virginia; Largo, Florida; Gilbertsville, Kentucky; Frankfort, Illinois; Tinley Park, Illinois; Traverse City, Michigan; Tinley Park, Illinois; Forest Park, Illinois; Melrose Park, Illinois, and various other points around the earth, lived the memorable story of her full and rich life right up until March 18, 2019. Doris, an avid reader and writer, was born in Melrose Park, Illinois to Harold and Dorothy Spielman and was possibly the only only child who could boast of possessing more siblings than anyone else. She lived her life as if she was related to everyone she’d meet. To Doris, life was to be lived like pages turning the best of novels, each page an adventure, romance, journey, acts of heroism inspiring humanity and justice. And of all the life affirming chapters, those Doris embraced most reflected the unconditional love and commitment to family. Doris married Peter Piazza and together they had five children: Jennifer (Bruce), Michael (Laura), Stephen (Lori), Dorothy (Jerry), and Camille (Eric). And of course this resulted in fifteen side stories, otherwise known as grandchildren: Jenny, Dan, Samuel, Shari, Franklin, Erica, Michael, Jeffrey, Stuart, Nicholas, Alison, Ted, Peter, Catrina, and Jeena; then, not to mention the developing subplots in the form of eleven great grandchildren: Melea, Skyler, Keaton, Jackson, Nolan, Megan, Adelaide, Karlee, Josiah, Avalyn, and Jacob; and along the way even more subplots involving beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers and sisters in law, nieces, and nephews. Her storied life will be celebrated with a visitation at Bormann Funeral Home, 1600 Chicago Ave, Melrose Park, IL from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 22, and through a Mass to be held on Saturday, March 23 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 1101 23rd Ave., Melrose Park, IL. Interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Donations to Arbor Hospice are welcomed: https://www.arborhospice.org .

Doris will be missed, and for those who do, Doris would remind them not to worry and that there’s always hope. Just as one of her closest sisters, Scarlett, always says, “After all…tomorrow is another day.”
